Active Ageing

Play Your Way to Active Ageing
Movement. Coordination. Competition. Connection. Fun.
Staying active as we get older matters.
But staying active doesn't always have to mean going to the gym, running, lifting weights or joining an exercise class.
Sometimes it can simply mean playing.
iSports Mobile brings together physical activity, interactive technology and game-based challenges to create a different approach to active ageing.
Throw a ball.
Hit a target.
React to something moving.
Challenge a friend.
Work as a team.
Try to beat your previous score.
And, almost without noticing it, keep moving.
What If Exercise Felt More Like Play?
One of the biggest challenges in promoting physical activity is finding something people actually want to come back and do again.
That's where play matters.
iSports Mobile transforms a wall or floor into an interactive activity space where participants physically engage with games, targets and challenges.
The technology responds immediately to what the participant does.
There are scores to beat.
Targets to hit.
Challenges to complete.
And plenty of opportunities for friendly competition.
You just need to be willing to have a go.
Different iSports Mobile activities can encourage different combinations of movement and coordination.
🎯 Aim
Throw soft balls towards stationary or moving targets, adjusting direction, speed and accuracy.
⚡ React
Respond to changing targets and visual cues, combining concentration with physical movement.
🏀 Move
Reach, throw, step, turn and change position as part of different games and challenges.
🧠 Think
Make quick decisions, recognise patterns, anticipate what happens next and respond.
🤝 Play Together
Play individually, in pairs or as part of a team.
🏆 Challenge Yourself
Competition doesn't have to mean being better than somebody else.
Sometimes the challenge is simply:
Can I beat my own score?
Supporting Healthy Ageing Through Movement
Regular physical activity becomes increasingly important as we get older.
Movement supports physical function, cardiovascular health, strength, balance and general wellbeing.
Physical activity is also associated with benefits for mental and cognitive health.
iSports Mobile is not intended to replace walking, strength work, balance training or other established forms of physical activity.
Instead, it provides another enjoyable reason to move.
And for people who don't particularly enjoy conventional exercise, that can be important.
Hand-Eye Coordination Meets Physical Activity
Many of the activities involve a simple combination:
See it. React to it. Move. Aim. Throw.
That brings together visual attention, movement, hand-eye coordination and decision-making.
A soft-ball target activity, for example, may involve:
Watching for a target
Selecting where to throw
Coordinating the movement
Adjusting the next attempt
Responding as the game changes
And repeating the activity in a playful environment.
The participant isn't thinking about completing an exercise programme.
They're trying to hit the next target.
The Social Side Matters Too
Active ageing isn't only about physical fitness.
Social connection matters.
That's why we particularly like using iSports Mobile as a group activity.
Imagine four participants standing together in front of an interactive basketball challenge.
The clock starts.
Balls are flying.
People are calling out scores.
Someone misses completely.
Someone else can't miss.
There's competition.
There's encouragement.
And usually there's laughter.
That's very different from exercising alone.
It creates an activity people can share.
Friendly Competition at Any Age
Competition doesn't disappear when we get older.
It just doesn't always have to be particularly serious.
iSports Mobile can introduce:
Individual challenges
Team versus team games
Highest-score competitions
Accuracy challenges
Timed activities
Personal-best challenges
Group targets
Leaderboards
The facilitator can decide how competitive — or how cooperative — each activity should be.
For some groups, the leaderboard will be the attraction.
For others, participation and laughter will matter far more than the score.
Both are perfectly valid.
Activities Can Be Adapted Around the Participant
There is no single definition of an "older adult".
A highly active 70-year-old and somebody returning to physical activity after many years are completely different participants.
Activities therefore need to be adaptable.
With iSports Mobile, facilitators can vary:
Distance
Speed
Target size
Type of ball
Number of participants
Duration
Level of competition
Type of movement
Some activities can involve greater movement and intensity.
Others can concentrate on coordination, reaction and accuracy.
Where appropriate, activities can also be adapted for participants who prefer or require seated participation.
The important principle is:
Meet people where they are.
And help them enjoy moving from there.
From 50+ to Active Ageing
We don't have to wait until people consider themselves "old" before thinking about healthy ageing.
Active ageing starts earlier.
Community groups, sports organisations and Local Sports Partnerships can use interactive physical activity with people in their 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond — adapting the challenge to the individuals taking part.
For someone returning to activity, it might be a gentle target game.
For another group, it could be a highly competitive basketball challenge.
Same technology. Different experience.
Ideal for Community-Based Programmes
iSports Mobile can support active ageing activities in:
Local Sports Partnership programmes
Age Friendly initiatives
Community centres
Sports clubs
Men's Sheds
Women's groups
Active Retirement groups
Leisure centres
Family resource centres
Day and community services
Libraries and community facilities
Intergenerational programmes
Sports inclusion initiatives
The system is mobile, allowing the activity to travel to where people already meet.
Bringing Generations Together
Play also creates opportunities for something particularly valuable:
intergenerational activity.
Children, parents and grandparents can play the same game.
The difficulty may change.
The distance may change.
The rules may change.
But everyone can still participate in the same experience.
That opens possibilities for family activity days, community events and programmes designed to bring generations together through movement and play.
Technology That Encourages Movement
Technology is often blamed for making us less active.
We think technology can also be part of the solution.
With iSports Mobile, the screen isn't something you sit down and watch.
It gives you a reason to:
Stand up.
Reach.
React.
Throw.
Move.
Laugh.
And try again.
A Structured Active Ageing Programme
The real value of the technology comes when it is combined with good facilitation.
Rebound Sports is interested in working with Local Sports Partnerships, Age Friendly organisations, community groups and physical activity professionals to develop structured active ageing programmes using iSports Mobile.
A session could combine:
Warm-up and mobility
Simple coordination games
Reaction activities
Target throwing
Team challenges
Individual personal-best challenges
Cool-down and social interaction
Activities can then progress over a number of weeks as participants become more familiar and confident.
The objective isn't elite performance.
It's participation, progression and enjoyment.
Play Your Way to Active Ageing
Getting older shouldn't mean giving up competition.
It shouldn't mean giving up learning new skills.
And it certainly shouldn't mean giving up play.
We believe physical activity can be fun, social and engaging at every stage of life.
Keep moving.
Keep reacting.
Keep competing.
Keep connecting.
Keep playing.
